In short

  • kejn uses no analytics tools and no tracking, on the website or in the apps, and we place no third-party cookies.
  • We set two cookies that the website needs to work: a session cookie and a security token.
  • The web app also keeps a few things in your browser: your sign-in, your language and theme, and an offline copy of the app. Only kejn reads them.
  • All of this is strictly necessary, so there is nothing to agree to and no cookie banner.

What this page covers

This page covers the kejn website at kejn.com and the kejn web app at kejn.com/app. The kejn apps for iOS and Android do not use browser cookies. How the apps handle your data is explained in our privacy policy.

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to keep. Local storage and session storage are similar places in your browser where a website can keep small pieces of information. On this page we explain all three, because the rules that protect you apply to all of them.

Cookies the website needs

These two cookies are set by kejn.com. Without them, the website cannot remember your language between pages or protect its forms. They contain no profile information and are never used for tracking.

Name What it does How long it stays
kejn-session Keeps a short session on the website, for example to remember the language you picked. It cannot be read by scripts on the page. 2 hours after your last visit
XSRF-TOKEN A security token that protects forms (such as the contact form) against requests forged by other websites. 2 hours after your last visit

Because these cookies are strictly necessary to provide the website you asked for, they do not need your consent. They are only sent over encrypted connections.

Settings kept in your browser

kejn keeps the following items in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device, are only read by kejn, and are not shared with anyone. Most of them only exist if you use the web app.

Name What it does How long it stays
kejn_language The language you chose for kejn. Until you change it or clear your browser data
kejn_theme Light or dark theme, if you chose one. Until you change it or clear your browser data
kejn_auth_token Keeps you signed in to the web app. Until you sign out
kejn_device_id A random number for this browser, created by kejn. It is sent when you sign in so you can see your sign-in history and we can spot sign-ins that do not look like you. It is not a hardware identifier. Until you clear your browser data
kejn_today_answered Which of today’s introductions you have already answered, so Today does not show them again. Replaced every day
kejn_kyc_return, kejn_kyc_pending, kejn_invite_draft:… Where to bring you back after identity verification, and an invitation you were writing before you verified. Up to 7 days
kejn_onboarding_looking_for, kejn_promise_accepted Remembers which sign-up steps you have finished on this device. Until you clear your browser data
kejn_push_prompted Remembers that we already asked whether you want notifications, so we ask only once. Until you sign out
height_unit Whether you prefer centimetres or feet and inches. Until you change it or clear your browser data

During sign-up only

While you sign up or sign in, the web app keeps a few items in session storage, which your browser empties when you close the tab: the phone number you are confirming (kejn_otp_phone), short-lived confirmation tokens (kejn_verification_token, kejn_social_token), the name and e-mail address passed on by Apple or Google if you sign in with them (kejn_social_name, kejn_social_email), an invitation code if you arrived through one (kejn_referral_code), and whether you have seen the age choice after verification (kejn_age_choice_seen).

Offline copy of the app

The web app installs a service worker, a small script that keeps a copy of kejn’s own pages and files (in a cache called kejn-v2) so the app opens faster and still shows something when your connection drops. It never stores your conversations, profiles or other data from our servers.

Notifications in your browser

If you allow notifications in the web app, your browser creates a push address with its own push service (for example the one run by Google, Mozilla or Apple, depending on your browser). We store that address on our servers so we can send you notifications. You can turn notifications off in kejn or in your browser settings at any time.

These items are needed to provide the features you use, so they do not need your consent.

When you visit other services

Some steps happen on other providers’ pages or use their scripts, only when you choose them. Those providers set their own cookies under their own rules:

  • Sign in with Apple or Google. Their sign-in script is loaded only when you tap that button.
  • Identity verification. When you verify your ID, you go to our verification provider Didit, which uses its own cookies to run the check securely.
  • Payments on the web. If you pay on the web, you are taken to the payment provider’s page. In the iOS and Android apps, Apple and Google handle payment.

What we do not use

  • No analytics tools of any kind, neither our own nor anyone else’s.
  • No advertising, retargeting or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • No Facebook, TikTok, Google Ads or similar pixels.
  • No session recording and no keystroke logging.
  • No fingerprinting to recognise you across websites.

Your choices

You can delete cookies and site data in your browser settings at any time, or block them altogether. If you block the two necessary cookies, the website may not remember your language and the contact form will not work. If you clear the web app’s data, you are signed out.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: kejn does not track you, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off.

Changes to this page

If we add or remove a cookie or a similar technology, we publish the new version of this page here, with its date at the top. For important changes, we also tell you before they apply. Anything that needs your consent would only be used after you said yes.
