Delete your account

You can delete your kejn account at any time — in the app, or by e-mail if you no longer have it. This page explains how, what happens to your data, and what we have to keep. It applies to kejn on the web, on iOS and on Android (kejn by ClickAttack Ltd).

Delete your account in the app

  1. Open kejn and go to You, then Settings.
  2. Under Account, choose Delete account and read what happens.
  3. Ask for a code and enter the code we send by text message to your phone number.

Your profile disappears from kejn straight away and you are signed out on all your devices. Your invitations and conversations end.

Delete your account without the app

If you no longer have the app, write to support@kejn.com with the subject "Delete my account". Send it from the e-mail address saved in your account, or tell us the phone number you signed up with.

Before we delete anything, we check that the account is yours — usually by sending a code to the phone number of the account. We then confirm the deletion request to you. After that, the same steps apply as in the app.

You have 30 days to change your mind

Your account is finally deleted 30 days after your request. If you sign in again within those 30 days, the deletion is cancelled and your account is restored. After 30 days, it can no longer be restored.

Before you delete

  • If you have a subscription from the App Store or Google Play, cancel it in your Apple or Google account settings. Deleting your kejn account does not cancel it. Subscriptions you bought directly from us are cancelled automatically.
  • If you would like a copy of your data first, request it in the kejn app or at kejn.com under Settings › Download my data, or write to privacy@kejn.com. You get a complete copy as a JSON file. The download link works for 24 hours, and the file is deleted after 7 days.

What we delete

After 30 days, we delete:

  • your profile: your name, birthday, the facts about you, your texts, your location and home city, your interests and languages;
  • your photos, videos and voice messages, including those you sent in conversations. The files themselves are deleted from our servers;
  • your Compass answers, the notes you wrote on invitations, and your settings;
  • your phone number, your e-mail address, your sign-ins on your devices and any linked Apple or Google sign-in;
  • the text of the messages you sent. In the other person's conversation, your messages are shown as deleted.

What we keep, and for how long

Some information we have to keep for a limited time, or need in order to keep kejn safe:

  • An anonymous record of your account without your name or contact details, so that other members' conversations and invitations stay consistent.
  • Proof of your identity verification — that the check took place, its result and date, the document type and the issuing country — for 12 months after your account is deleted, to prevent misuse. The raw verification data and the details read from your ID are wiped when your account is deleted. kejn does not keep copies of your ID document; our verification partner keeps verification data only for as long as its contract with us and the law allow.
  • Reports you made or that concern you, for up to 2 years after the case is closed, and the information needed to enforce a ban for as long as the ban applies, so that someone removed for serious breaches cannot simply sign up again.
  • Payment and accounting records, for as long as accounting and tax law requires — in Switzerland, ten years.

Copies in our encrypted backups are overwritten within 90 days.

Delete only some of your data

You do not have to delete your account to remove things. In the app, you can delete photos, videos and texts from your profile at any time in Edit profile, close conversations, and pause your profile in Settings so that no one new is introduced to you. To have other data deleted, write to privacy@kejn.com.

More about how we handle your data is in our privacy policy.
